Southern California was feeling the effects of a mini heat wave, with temperatures expected to climb about 5 to 10 degrees above area norms Wednesday and Thursday.

Alex Morgan, one of the best women's soccer players in U.S. history, announced her retirement from the game last fall.

"There is a high risk for heat illness for sensitive populations including the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning, and those active outdoors," states the NWS.
