BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The Whoopie Pie festival was back again Saturday in Rutland, bringing people all the cakey creamy goodness, but also an attempt at a world record sized whoopie pie.

The whoopie pie is a favorite New England dessert. Since bigger is always better, a Vermont baker sets out to make the biggest whoopie pie in the world.

Nonprofit organizations, including the BROC Community Food Shelf, will distribute hundreds of pounds of dessert to community members in and around Rutland.

A Killington bakery is hoping to claim the title of making the largest whoopie pie, the current record holder is Wicked Whoopies in Maine at 1,067 pounds.
