Byron Buxton has had an All-Star season for the Minnesota Twins highlighted by his consistent presence in the lineup.
Buxton led off the bottom of the first inning when he was hit, although the play was initially ruled a foul ball. Minnesota challenged the call and it was overturned after video review showed the ball hitting a pad on the top of Buxton’s hand.
And this time, after consulting with teammates, family and friends, the Twins center fielder is going as a Home Run Derby participant, too. Buxton played in the 2022 All-Star Game in Los Angeles, when he homered in an American League victory at Dodger Stadium.
Buxton, a Georgia native, will be heading home for his second All-Star Game, but the Twins' top pitchers were passed over for the AL team.

Buxton announced his plans to compete in next Monday’s Home Run Derby on his Instagram account a day after he was named the Twins’ lone representative in the All-Star Game. It will be his second Midsummer Classic but the first time he’s participated in the derby.
