The Supreme Court will stay for now a lower court’s order requiring Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to hand over thousands of pages of documents to a government watchdog group.Chief Justice John Roberts on Friday granted an emergency stay sought by the Trump administration in a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) suit brought by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).

The ruling, which covers 22 agencies and also prohibits shutting down programs or offices, effectively pauses the president’s plans for reshaping much of the government while the case plays out.
