The Brutalist' filmmaker Brady Corbet earned the Golden Globe for best movie directing over nominees Jacques Audiard, Sean Baker, Edward Berger, Coralie Fargeat and Payal Kapadia at the Jan. 5 ceremony hosted by Nikki Glaser in Los Angeles.

Brady also briefly mentioned Aubrey Plaza and her late husband, director Jeff Baena. As the Los Angeles Times reported earlier today, Jeff was found dead on Friday at his home. The Los Angeles County coroner's office determined suicide as the cause of death.

The 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards delivered its fair share of powerful speeches, but a standout of the evening was Brady Corbet, who won Best Director, Motion Picture for The Brutalist.
