John Cooney's family have told of their 'complete devastation' following the boxer's death at the age of just 28. The Galway native's death was announced on Saturday in a statement published by his promoter Mark Dunlop, on behalf of the Cooney family and his fiancee, Emmaleen.

Mr Cooney underwent immediate surgery following the contest but remained in a critical condition during the past week, and his death was sadly confirmed by his manager Mark Dunlop of MHD Promotions at the weekend.
