RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's latest Democratic governor was sworn in to office on Wednesday, as Josh Stein succeeded Roy Cooper once again in a top elected position for the second time in eight years.

Democrat Josh Stein took the oath of office Wednesday morning in Raleigh, becoming the state’s 76th governor Wednesday morning. He succeeded fellow Democrat Roy Cooper. Public inauguration events will happen January 11 and 12.

A transition of power will happen New Year's Day as North Carolina Governor-elect Josh Stein will be sworn in. Stein will officially be sworn in as the state's 76th governor in Raleigh at 11 a.m. Wrapping up 8 years as North Carolina's Attorney General, Stein was elected governor in November.

Stein was sworn in on Jan. 1, taking the reins from Roy Cooper after defeating Mark Robinson in the November election.
