Sheriff’s officials were warning the public Saturday to be on the lookout for a possibly live grenade — one of two that were found at a Santa Monica apartment building storage unit last week, after the other one detonated the following day in East Los Angeles, killing three sheriff’s detectives.

Robert Luna with the LA County Sheriff's Department and Kenny Cooper with ATF said Friday that one of the two grenades that detonated last week, killing three deputies, is unaccounted for.

The deadly blast was caused by 1 of 2 grenades retrieved the day before, and believed to be inert, Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed. The 2nd one has not turned up, despite extensive searches.
