Holding signs saying 'gringo go home' and 'no tourists,' Mexico City residents took to the streets to complain about what they say is the gentrification of their city.

A protest by hundreds against gentrification and mass tourism that began peacefully Friday in Mexico City neighborhoods popular with tourists turned violent when a small number of people began smashing storefronts and harassing foreigners.

Top concerns include the displacement of longtime residents as rents and food prices surge. Ire over the influx of well-heeled foreigners has been building for years.
