The winter weather across the area has caused some closings and delays for Thursday and Friday. (WJW) – Lingering snow and bitterly cold temperatures have prompted some school closings and delays. Most are reported in FOX 8’s south and west viewing areas, such as Ashland, Carroll, Holmes, Tuscarawas, and Wayne counties. CLICK HERE to see the complete list.

With sleet and snow now falling in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, many of the school districts that were waiting to make a decision about Friday have now announced closures.

The National Weather Service projects up to 2 inches of combined ice and snow across much of the area, with higher amounts possible locally.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - School closings are mounting up in the Volunteer State ahead of Friday’s winter storm. Below is an outlook of the First Alert Weather Day with travel impacts and more.

"All Austin ISD schools and offices will operate on normal schedules Thursday, Jan. 9, but due to rain and cold temperatures, all afterschool outdoor athletic activities will be canceled and any other outdoor activities will move indoors," Austin ISD wrote on Facebook.

Louisville-area schools are watching the weather forecast as a winter storm system is expected to reach Kentucky on Friday.

District leaders say they typically decide by 8 p.m. the night before if they expect classes to be impacted the next day. In rare cases, they could wait until 5 a.m. the day of. The district says they will notify the community of any changes to the school day or activities through social media, phone, email, and text.

Winter weather is here in the Texas Hill Country. While folks are working to keep warm, they also need to know if their children will be going to school. While National Weather Service predicted the area would get the worst of the arctic blast, most local schools are going on as planned.
