President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested a federal takeover of New York City and Washington. The comments came when Trump, during a meeting of his Cabinet at the White House, was asked about New York City's upcoming mayoral election.

Taking a jab at New York mayoral candidate Zohram Mamdani, President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested the White House could assert federal control over both New York City and Washington, if local leadership does not align with his administration’s vision- particularly in the wake of New York’s upcoming mayoral election and ongoing debates about crime in the nation’s capital.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday his administration was considering taking over governance of Washington, D.C., and suggested he could take similar action in New York because of his distaste for the leading candidate for mayor there.
