World number 4 Collin Morikawa is one of three golfers who have announced their withdrawal from the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open on Sunday.
Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion and current World No. 5, is now the highest-ranked player in the Farmers Open, followed by No. 6 Ludvig Aberg. Others in the top 25 entered are Keegan Bradley (11), Sahith Theegala (13), Sungjae Im (19), Aaron Rai (22) and Tony Finau (25).
The PGA Tour stays in California for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. The tournament runs Wednesday through Saturday to avoid the NFL conference championships.
Morikawa was in a familiar situation at the season-opening Sentry this past weekend. He entered the final round one stroke behind leader Hideki Matsuyama at Kapalua and, once again, failed to convert the opportunity into a win. Morikawa missed three of the first four greens in his final round, more than he missed in the first three combined rounds.
