U.S. stocks are rising toward records Friday, as the S&P 500 closes out a sixth straight week of gains for its longest weekly winning streak of the year. Wall Street's main measure of health was 0.5% higher in afternoon trading and on track to squeak past its all-time high set early this week.

U.S. stocks rose Wednesday following better-than-expected profit reports from Morgan Stanley, United Airlines and other big companies. The S&P 500 gained 0.5% to recover much of the slide from its all-time high the day before because of tumbling energy and technology stocks.
