Shares of Albertsons Companies (NYSE:ACI) are trading defensively for the first time in six days after the company said it was letting go of some of its corporate staff to “recalibrate the company to compete in a rapidly changing market.

Retail focus investment firm Gordon Brothers revealed that it is offering Big Lots leases for sale nationwide, following the completion of its purchase of the U.S. closeout retailer. The purchase enables the transfer of Big Lots’ assets, including its stores, distribution centers and intellectual property, to other retailers and companies.

The grocer didn’t offer specifics, though a WARN notice in Arizona noted that the company is firing 225 corporate office employees in Phoenix.

These layoffs come just about a month after Albertsons gave up on a merger deal with Kroger after two separate courts denied the merger. Kroger and Albertsons proposed the largest grocery store merger in U.
