Lake effect snow and freezing drizzle are creating slick conditions across parts of Chicagoland today, with the wintry weather expected to continue through this evening and into tonight. Any untreated surfaces are likely to be icy,

Untreated roads will be slippery as freezing drizzle sets the stage for more snow to come, a local meteorologist said.

Sunday won’t offer much relief, with cloudy skies dominating throughout the day. Highs will barely reach the mid-20s. Lake effect snow is expected to develop Sunday night and continue into Monday. Hampton Roads might get another round of snow and ice this weekend as a nor’easter is expected to move across the South. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield,

The seasonably cold January weather is sticking around Chicagoland this week. Early-morning temperatures Wednesday were in the single digits away from the lake and in the teens closer to the lake, with winds out of the northwest dropping wind-chill values to around zero in some locations.

It’s cold, and it’s going to stay cold in Chicago with only minor fluctuations in temperatures likely over the next couple of weeks.
