Forecasters with the National Weather Service of New Orleans said Sunday morning that it's too soon to tell whether the Caribbean system will impact the local area.

A tropical depression is likely to form in the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico this week, according to the National Hurricane Center. What is not yet known is whether this system will continue to develop into a tropical storm or a hurricane.

A system in the Caribbean Sea is expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico and has high chances of developing into a strong tropical storm or hurricane before making landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
