Ben Healy rode himself into the ground in a nail-biting finale to become the first Irishman in 38 years to wear the yellow jersey at the Tour de France, as Britain's Simon Yates claimed victory in stage 10 on Monday with a perfectly timed attack.

Ireland has a new cycling hero. Ben Healy became the fourth Irish rider to earn the Tour de France's yellow jersey on Monday with a gritty ride in the fabled race’s first mountainous stage. Healy led for much of the tough 165.

Despite getting in the key breakaway on stage 10 of the Tour de France, Australians Ben O'Connor and Michael Storer end up empty handed as Ireland's Ben Healy takes yellow and England's Simon Yates wins the stage.

As a 16-year-old at the 2005 North of Ireland Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush, Rory McIlroy shot a course record 61. That was the old course, before redesign. It's a course he recognizes only parts of now.

On Monday, golfer Rory McIlroy walked over to spectators wanting his autograph, including on one large flag of his native Northern Ireland. He returns home to be celebrated as much as the fans want to see him end a more special year on a spectacular note at the British Open.
