Though The Lord of the Rings reaches a clear conclusion, Tolkien wrote about the future, implying that Middle-earth becomes the world we live in.

The Lord of the Rings is taking a leap of faith with its 2026 movie, risking the legacy of its former successes, but one Sauron change could make it truly brilliant. Andy Serkis will direct and star in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum movie.

As of early October 2024, Rings of Power has not been renewed for Season 3. However, reports suggest that it will happen. Back in September, THR released a report claiming that a third installment of the Lord of the Rings prequel show was already in the works. The site explained:

Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke says The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will continue as long as it keeps up its 150 million viewer range. "[That 50-episode] commitment is never the thing that’s driving what we’re doing,

"We’ll continue to make the show as long as we see global customers loving it and watching it...So I feel really good. I think we all do." That's not the same as "season 3 is happening."
