A woman named Lea has revealed she was scammed out of more than $375,000 by a catfish who pretended to be Virgin River star Martin Henderson - and she even moved to New Zealand to be with him.

Lea first encountered the catfish two years ago when she posted on a fan page for Virgin River. She received a message from someone purporting to be Martin's agent, claiming that Martin liked Lea's comments and wanted to chat with her. The pair reportedly hit it off, discussing favourite foods and shared interests.

The alleged scammer preyed on the woman after she posted on a "Virgin River" fan page, first impersonating Henderson's manager, then Henderson himself.

Martin Henderson, famed for his portrayal of Jack Sheridan in the Netflix smash Virgin River, has delivered an earnest heads-up to his fans regarding online scammers. On Instagram, the actor shared a frank video message warning his followers about possible frauds mimicking him on the web.
