Judge Breyer sets hearing on California's lawsuit challenging Trump's federalization of National Guard amid escalating anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles

A federal court hearing is scheduled on whether the Trump administration can use the National Guard and Marines to assist with immigration raids in Los Angeles.

The California Governor has sued the U.S. President over the mobilization of the National Guard, calling it “an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”

Trump lawyers told the court that Trump has "no obligation" to consult, or even notify California Gov. Newsom before federalizing National Guard troops to quell anti-ICE protests.

Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman said 500 National Guard members have been trained to accompany agents on immigration operations.

Gov. Gavin Newsom asked the Trump administration on Sunday to rescind its move to deploy 2,000 California National Guardsmen to Los Angeles to subdue immigration protests, accusing the White House of illegally overriding his authority and intentionally inflaming tensions with protesters.
