Apple’s top AI executive, Ruoming Pang, is leaving for Meta, marking a major blow to the iPhone maker’s foundation models team, Bloomberg reported. Pang oversaw the group behind Apple’s large language models and will join Meta’s new superintelligence division.

Apple Inc.’s top executive in charge of artificial intelligence models is leaving for Meta Platforms Inc., another setback in the iPhone maker’s struggling AI efforts.

Ruoming Pang previously ran Apple's in-house team that trained the AI foundation models that underpin Apple Intelligence and other on-device AI features.
