Centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant helped India close in on victory in the first Test despite a spirited start to Bangladesh's chase for their target of 515 in Chennai on Saturday.

Rishabh Pant struck a century on his return to test cricket as India reduced Bangladesh to 158-4 (37.2 overs) at stumps on day three of the first test Saturday. Pant scored 109 runs off 128 balls for his sixth test hundred as India finished its second innings at 287-4 declared in 64 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin claimed six wickets after a first-innings century with the bat to inspire India to a 280-run thrashing of Bangladesh in the first Test on Sunday. Bangladesh pace bowler Hasan Mahmud claimed five wickets in the first innings and reduced India to 34-3 in the first hour of play.
