U.S. stocks are rising toward records Friday, as the S&P 500 closes out a sixth straight week of gains for its longest weekly winning streak of the year. Wall Street's main measure of health was 0.5% higher in afternoon trading and on track to squeak past its all-time high set early this week.

U.S. stocks drifted around their record heights Thursday following the latest signals that the U.S. economy continues to hum. The S&P 500 finished virtually unchanged after flirting with its all-time high for much of the day.
