Mayfield’s frustration was evident after the fumble, punching the ground as Washington recovered. Despite the setback, the Buccaneers rallied to tie the game at 20-20 on a field goal, but another miscommunication — this time an early snap by rookie center Graham Barton — cost Tampa Bay a chance to maintain momentum.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield left the field at Raymond James Stadium dejected after Tampa fell to the Commanders 23-20 to end their playoff run as quickly as it started.

The Buccaneers trailed the Saints 16-6, as they faced third-and-3 from their 42-yard line. Mayfield dropped back, couldn't find anyone open and decided to scramble. He ran for 10 yards then decided to slide. Unfortunately, his slide came a bit late and Saints safety Will Harris hit him really hard.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield followed up a stellar regular season with a tremendous wild-card performance, but his late fumble is what will stick with him after costing Tampa Bay in its 23-20 loss on Sunday to Washington.
