Austinites may soon be able to hop in a Tesla robotaxi, as Elon Musk's electric vehicle maker targets a possible June 12 launch and has already started testing its driverless Model Y vehicles in the city.

From Waymos coming to Houston to Aurora trucks on the highway, driverless vehicles are hitting Texas roads this summer. Now, Tesla is expected to jump into the fray by beginning its own robotaxi service in Austin as soon as June 12.

Tesla has been testing its robotaxis without a human driver for several days, and the service should roll out to customers next month, CEO Elon Musk says.
