Chase Strangio (/ s t r æ n ˈ dʒ iː oʊ / [1] born October 29, 1982) [2] is an American lawyer and transgender rights activist. He is the deputy director for transgender justice [3] and staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). [4] [5] He is the first known transgender person to make oral arguments before the Supreme Court of the United States.[6]

Chase Strangio is Co-Director of the ACLU’s LGBT & HIV Project as well as a nationally recognized expert on transgender rights. Chase’s work includes impact litigation, as well as legislative and administrative advocacy, on behalf of LGBTQ people and people living with HIV across the United States.
