Dighton is a town in Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 8,101 at the 2020 census. [ 2 ] The town is located on the western shore of the Taunton River in the southeastern part of the state.

The Town of Dighton is a small, historic town located along the Taunton River in Southeastern Massachusetts. Named for the wife of one of the town’s founders, Dighton was incorporated in the spring of 1712.

Today, Dighton is mostly a residential suburb of Providence and Boston. Though some farms still remain, many of them are being sold to developers. However, the town has made a recent push to preserve open space and agriculture.

Dighton is rural southeastern Massachusetts at its best. Villages and country sides, neighborhoods and farms, and small-town charm. The town’s coastline on the federally designated “Wild and Scenic” Taunton River gives some parts of Dighton a coastal vibe.

Dighton spans 22.4 square miles and is a water source for the Metro South region. Situated an hour’s drive to Boston and just minutes from the city of Providence. A “Right to Farm” community, Dighton has maintained its rural feel since being founded by agriculturalists.

Oct 14, 2021 · For most of its documented history, Dighton Rock sat in the Taunton River, whose rising waters sometimes obscured its art and where erosion took a heavy toll. It was located at a point where the river widens as it approaches Mount Hope Bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

It encompasses an area that was in the 18th and 19th centuries a port facility on the Taunton River for the town, including three 18th-century wharves and four houses of early to mid 18th-century construction.
