This is how I control my small hive beetles. With Diatomaceous Earth on the solid IPM board underneath the screened hive bottom. Important that you use the right kind of DE. (not the pool filter DE). Garden Centers carry food grade diatomaceous earth as an organic crawling insect control. Here in VA, I change it out about once a week to keep it light and fluffy, otherwise the bugs just walk over top of it without getting dusted.
