Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings when Allied forces launched the largest naval, air and land operation in history. On 6 June 1944 over 5,000 ships and landing craft were used to land more than 150,000 troops on five beaches in Normandy 🌊 🎥 In preparation for this operation, secret experiments took place at the Great Pagoda at Kew to develop the smoke curtain technique used by Allied forces on D-Day.
