The floating seal... The Copeland Company scroll utilizes a floating seal that sits at the top of the scroll set. The floating seal creates a metal on metal seal with the muffler plate and also pushes down on the scroll set (fixed scroll onto the orbiting scroll) to allow pumping action of the compressor.
