The Montgomery Police Department charged El’ Gerkuz Johnson, 27, of Montgomery with Capital Murder. He was identified as the suspect in the stabbing death of 35-year-old, Darrell Cates. He was taken into custody on February 22, 2024, by MPD and placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility under no bond.
